Țărmul asiatic al Istanbulului este ușor accesibil cu feribotul Eminönü dock de-a lungul Bosforului. Pe o insulă aflată chiar lângă țărmul asiatic se află o înălțime de 30 de metri Kiz Kulesi, (Turnul Maiden). Üsküdar a fost în mod tradițional cunoscut sub numele de Scutari și are câteva moschei vechi frumos, benzi bobinate și case din lemn de culoare brună (mai ales între docul feribotului și cimitirul mare). Orașul, cunoscut în antichitate ca Chrysopolis, a fost una dintre primele așezări grecești din Bosfor. Era mult mai expusă atacurilor unor cuceritori străini decât Constantinopolul, cu situația defensivă și cu zidurile puternice, dar a reușit să atragă avantaje economice din situația expusă - până în 1800 a fost capătul traseelor caravanei care a adus comorile Est la Constantinopol și mai departe spre Europa. De interes special de interes turistic aici este Mihrimah Sultan Mosque, construit de Süleyman Magnificul în 1547 pentru fiica sa Mihrimah și Yeni Valide Mosque, construit în secolul al XVIII-lea de către sultanul Ahmet al III-lea.
