Cetatea Yedikule (Yedikule Hısarı)

Deși este un pic de schlep pe trenul suburban pentru a ieși la Yedikule, această fortăreață comandantă este bine merită. Construită în secolul al V-lea de către împăratul Teodosie al II-lea, cetatea a constituit partea sudică a zidurilor defensive ale Constantinopolului. Arcul mamut (blocat în perioada bizantină târzie) era cunoscut ca Porta Aurea (Poarta de Aur), cu ușile placate în aur. Când otomanii au cucerit orașul, au folosit cetatea pentru apărare și mai târziu ca loc de închisoare și de execuție. Yedikule a fost restaurată în ultimii ani, și puteți urca până la vârful cimitirelor pentru priveliști superbe la Marea Marmara.
